On my desk...

On my desk this Wednesday: Three new books (received for my birthday) - Printing by hand (So inspiring! I just want to go out and stock up on printing supplies and get started NOW), Drawing from Life (Haven't really gotten into this one yet) & Eat, Drink & Be Vegan (Oh So Good. Must cook everything that I have seen so far and probably will); A pocket for another 'vintage' apron (I am thinking of putting it on a chocolate brown apron with a cream waistband & tie - what do you think?); some fabric and patterns laid out to make a couple of mini tote bags for Christmas; the beginnings of an 'artsy clutch' also for Christmas (yes, it is from the same fabrics as my last apron - I really like the combination and I had just a little of each left over); and poor Mamma bear's apron still waiting to be completed (sorry little bear!).

On my desk... apron

On my desk this week is a "vintage" apron that I am making for myself. Yes, I know that it is very "Suzy Homemaker" as my friend Brooke would say. However, what exactly is wrong with being a homemaker? Any negative connotations are purely the result of us totally disrespecting jobs that are typically done by women.

Anyway... the pattern is from Bend the rules sewing. I want to make almost every one of the 30 projects in this book. If only I had the time. It is driving me crazy...

On my desk... buttons

A big jar of buttons for just $7

OK, so they aren't actually on my desk, but they would be if it wasn't still covered in mess... Over the last couple of weeks I have been to a few op-shops (thrift-stores) around town and have been very excited to unearth a few great deals. You have already been introduced to my favourite of these finds - our new pasta maker - but I thought that I would share a few more with you.

Some cute fabric; a cutting board; and a Tigger beanie for Lily. In actual fact, it was Lily who found the beanie, but since it was only $3 I bought it for her. I think that it suits her quite well.

On my desk...

Sadly there is nothing creative on my desk today. Instead it is covered in tax-related papers (yes, we finally did our tax and we are actually getting a refund - yay!). Hidden amidst the mess are also a couple of fun new purchases - some tailor's chalk and a big fat fancy sewing ruler. Next to my sewing machine is also a print out of Hollabee's fabulous tote bag tutorial. I actually made a tote for a four-year old's birthday present last week and (crazily) failed to photograph it before gifting it. The sad part about that was that I was actually pretty proud of the bag - although I was concerned that it might not be very suitable for the actual (4-year old) recipient since I was quite tempted to keep it...

On my desk...

On my desk today is Lily's almost completed Mamma Bear, our ancient iBook, and my new favourite toy - an Ipod touch (a surprise gift from P - isn't he lovely?).

Mamma Bear still needs her apron (which is waiting at home) and still needs to have her little arms stuffed. I did the stuffing in the car on the way to Sydney and didn't quite bring enough with me...

On my desk...

On my desk this morning is (yet another!) mostly finished dress for Lily - awaiting buttons (blue or orange do you think?) - and the beginnings of a "mamma bear" from the Softies book (which I am making at Lily's very specific request).

On my desk...

On my desk this week is the beginnings of another little dress for Lily - this time from a Russian (Babushka) doll fabric (also from Kelani), and an almost-finished 'little red riding hood' doll for a gift for a cousin who turns two today. Happy Birthday Maddie!

I am planning to finish the doll (made using the inside a black apple pattern) with a little red felt hood to go with its 'little red riding hood' dress. I'll try to remember to photograph the finished product before the party on Saturday.

On my desk...

I'm taking part in 'On my desk Wednesday' for the first time today. So, um, here is my sewing table (which is often buried under all sorts of other things).

Today it is covered in the beginnings of a bunch of felt vegetables that I am making for Lily (and the wool felt that they are being made out of); the beginnings of a dress that I am making for Lily to wear in Vanuatu (where we are going in just 2&1/2 weeks!); my box of patterns; and my sewing machine etc.
